Driving in Serbia — everything you need to know
Speed limits, tolls, parking zones, mandatory equipment, cross-border rules and popular routes from Belgrade.
Alcohol & documents
- Blood alcohol limit: 0.02% (effectively zero — do not drink and drive).
- Zero tolerance for drivers under 21 and professional drivers.
- Always carry: driving licence, ID / passport, vehicle documents and green card (provided with the car).
- Minimum age to drive most vehicles: 21 with at least 2 years of licence.
Mandatory equipment in the car
- Reflective vest (worn when exiting on the shoulder).
- Warning triangle, first-aid kit, spare bulbs and tow rope.
- Winter tyres from 1 November to 1 April (all our cars are equipped).
- Daytime running lights or dipped headlights ON at all times.
Tolls & vignettes
- Serbia uses toll booths (not vignettes). Pay by card, cash (RSD/EUR) or ENP tag.
- Belgrade → Niš is around €10 one way; Belgrade → Novi Sad about €4.
- Neighbouring vignettes if you travel out: Slovenia, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Czechia, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Romania (buy online or at the border).
- Bosnia, Montenegro, North Macedonia — no vignette (some short toll sections in MNE).
Parking in Belgrade
- Zone Red (1h max) · Yellow (2h max) · Green (3h max) — Mon–Sat, working hours.
- Pay by SMS: send the plate number to 9111 (Red), 9112 (Yellow), 9113 (Green).
- Garages: Obilićev venac, Zeleni venac, Pijaca Zeleni venac, Masarikova, Blok 25 (New Belgrade) — €1–2/h.
- Sundays and public holidays: street parking is free in most zones.

Winter driving (Nov–Apr)
- Winter tyres required by law — all our vehicles are ready.
- Snow chains recommended for Kopaonik, Zlatibor and higher passes.
- Roads are salted regularly; morning ice is the main risk in the city.

- Turn on hazard lights, put on the vest, place the warning triangle.

Yes — add the cross-border permit (€30 flat) when booking. It covers Montenegro, Bosnia, Croatia, North Macedonia and Greece.
Are all tolls and taxes included in the price?+
Rental price includes all vehicle-related taxes, unlimited mileage inside Serbia, insurance (CDW/TP) and 24/7 assistance. Highway tolls and fuel are paid by the driver.
What if I get a speeding ticket during the rental?+
Fines are the driver's responsibility. Serbian police normally hand you the ticket on the spot; if it arrives by mail later, we forward it to you along with any administrative fee.
Is a credit card required to rent?+
No — we don't require a deposit or credit card block. Payment can be made by card, cash (EUR/RSD) or bank transfer for companies.
