Driving in Belgrade is straightforward, but parking in the centre is a discipline of its own. Get the zone system right and you'll never waste 20 minutes circling the block again.
The three central zones: Red (1h max, ~55 RSD/h), Yellow (2h max, ~46 RSD/h) and Green (3h max, ~40 RSD/h). Zones apply Monday–Friday 07:00–21:00 and Saturday 07:00–14:00. Sundays are free.
How to pay: SMS the plate number to the zone code (9111 red, 9112 yellow, 9113 green). English-friendly apps like ParkSmart also work. If you overstay, a warden leaves a €5–10 ticket you settle at the post office.
Free-parking areas within 15 min of the centre: Ušće (behind the shopping mall), Ada Ciganlija, Bulevar Nikole Tesle, and most streets in Zemun below the fortress. Great for a full-day car rental with a mid-day city walk.
Which rental car is smartest for city driving? A small automatic or manual like the Fiat Panda, Hyundai i10 or Renault Clio. All three fit into 4-metre spots, sip fuel and cost from €15/day — meaning a full day of city + suburb driving stays under €25 including one Yellow-zone parking session.
